UPDATE CHRISTMAS 2017
SLEEPING BEAUTY- what The reviews SAy:
"Sleeping Beauty" opened at Buxton Opera House on 9th December and we have been gathering in some fantastic reviews. See below:
The Stage (thestage.co.uk)
It scores well in all departments and benefits hugely from Philip Dart’s witty and intelligent script, stuffed with puns, topical references and local colour. And despite sticking to the familiar story, he has managed to smoothly introduce a time travelling element, courtesy of mad professor King Bertram (Alasdair Baker) enabling the narrative to wander into different decades. This lets them reprise some 1980s hits and fashions.
Verdict: Wittily-scripted and winningly performed pantomime featuring a standout performance from Johnathan Tweedie ****
Explore Buxton (explorebuxton.co.uk) ****
This is a great show with a non stop fun from start to finish. Scenery changes and lighting very good indeed, along with super special effects took the audience by surprise. A real feel good family pantomime in our beautiful Opera House – now what more could you want at Christmastime – this is a great night out for all the family. Highly recommended.
North West End (northwestend.co.uk)
I myself have been coming to Buxton for their fairytale productions since I was only 3 years old and as a child; it really was a highlight of the Christmas season. I can safely say; the pantomime at Buxton is still one of the best, this year’s offering of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ has all the amazing routines, all the cheeky jokes and all the Panto fun that one has come to expect from the Opera House in the peaks. This panto is a proper feel good experience; Buxton always gets the formula just right and the balance between enough mums and Dad jokes before it gets too much and just the right amount of Shazam to keep the little ones entranced is perfect!
Ladies’ Take On (ladiestakeon.co.uk)
Fun filled from the beginning, it wasn’t long before the audience were joining in, booing and hissing, cheering and yelling “it’s behind you” – everything you want at a pantomime! ...I would definitely recommend this fun filled, family experience as an extra treat this Christmas……oh yes I would!!!
What’s Good to Do (whatsgoodtodo.co.uk)
Wow what fun, a chance to forgot everything and have fun #makingfamily memories. Hats must go off the everyone involved – true quality. The pantomime is truly entertaining and high amusing ... not to be missed. Take the family to see this before the opportunity has past. Go on have some fun.
Artsbeat (artsbeatblog.com)
Philip Dart’s clever adaptation of the classic fairytale is bursting at the seams with the gags and glamour we expect from a pantomime and is the perfect family show. Pantomime is all about the children and if the beaming faces of those at the show I enjoyed were anything to go by Buxton’s Sleeping Beauty is the one to choose.
AND FINALLY ... a little taste of Sleeping Beauty thanks to our promotional video.
